Introduction of Society of Zoroastrian Students:

***Structure:

Society of Zoroastrian Students was established in 1968. It is registered with the Ministry of the Interior of the I.R.of Iran and holds a license for permitted activities. ''Kanoon" is independent of the other Tehran Zoroastrian Anjumans.

The students, who are involved with this society, fall into the following categories:

- The Board of Directors consisting of 7 students.

- Internal Inspectors consisting of 2 students.

- Members: who are either Zoroastrian Students (100 ones) or enthusiastic Zoroastrian youths (20 ones).

***Activities:

Religion

1. Mantra gathering

"Mantra", a gathering held annually in September, is amongst the largest Religious gatherings, for the Zoroastrian youths, in Iran. In this gathering participants compete with each other by either reading Avesta or writing articles on religious subjects. The number of participants exceeds 250 which creates a need for a two-stage competition. "Kanoon" will feel honored to be holding the 16th "Mantra" competitions, this September, helped by the high ambition of religious pioneers, teachers, judges, benevolences (who will provide a part of its costs) just like the previous years. The "Mantra" competitions have been so impressive that many of its participants start studying academic Religious courses at university levels.

2. Ayasrem Gah Gahanbar

One of the most precious Zoroastrian traditions with a great meaningful philosophy is the seasonal "Gahanbar" celebrations. Annually Kanoon holds" Ayasrem Gah" Gahanbar and thereby tends to spread our traditions. It is an honor for "Kanoon" that the ones, who recite Avesta in this event, are mainly either its members or have been members in the past.

 3. Story and Din Dabireh

This program is held to encourage Zoroastrian children for learning Din Dabireh (Avestan font) through an interesting method. Children read the favorite stories of their age, written in Din Dabireh. Also, during this event, they benefit from other educational and cultural programs.

 4. Providing religious books and CD's

'Kanoon" provides books and tuitional religious CD's for all those who are interested.

 

Sports 

1. Jam-e-janbakhtegan (Sport events in memorial of Zoroastrian Martyrs)

Held annually in July; this event brings many Zoroastrian athletes from all parts of Iran together in order to compete in different fields like Volleyball, basketball, badminton, ping pong, football, swimming, running, cycling and chess.

"The Jam" (Meaning Trophy) is a very impressive event in which Zoroastrian athletes are encouraged. At the same time, as the name reveals, Zoroastrian martyrs are venerated and it makes everybody recall their devotions and dedications.

 

Social work

1. Donation celebration helping needy families

Sympathy and helping others is part of humanity and many rich people in our community tend to help others without their names being mentioned. By holding Donation celebration, or receiving benevolences pecuniary donations, "kanoon" sends the provided money to needy people and students indiscreetly.

2. Free medical examinations

"Kanoon" also takes Zoroastrian expert doctors to poor villages to examine the patients freely.

 

Art and Culture 

1. Ordu (camping)

Each year, in August "Kanoon" arranges for about 100 Zoroastrian youths aged 14-18 to come together so as to learn and experience team work, besides good and friendly relationship. Simultaneously, they take part in different classes held by experts. Also, visiting cultural and historical places lets them learn many new things. This August, with the help of members and benevolences, the 31th "Ordu" had been held.

2. Musical gatherings

Music has always been a symbol of beauty. By gathering in musical functions, Zoroastrian musicians from all parts of Iran come together and play the pieces of music they have prepared. This gathering draws attention of many people interested in music. This program impressively encourages Zoroastrian musicians.

3. The Exhibition of Zoroastrian Religion and Culture

Today's culture of each country roots in its past strong culture. In this matter, ancient Iran is greatly known because of its unique and beautiful culture and thoughts. By holding these exhibitions regularly, "Kanoon" makes the glorious Iranian culture known to the world since visitors of these exhibitions are not only from Iran but from other countries too.

4. University Students' scientific gathering

In this event, university students give talks on their favorite researches and innovations and other studies. They then discuss these matters with experts and the other participants. Thus, not only they learn more and more on the subject but they experience the art of oratory.

5."Chelleh Night" (The celebration of the longest night of the year)

The Chelleh Night Celebrations in the "Kanoon" premises makes it a memorable event. Reciting nice poems by great Iranian poets (Hafez, Ferdowsi, and Molana) in addition to doing part of our traditional rituals and happy programs are among the programs of this night.

6. Ferdowsi's Veneration

Iranians always owe Ferdowsi (writer of Shahnameh) because his "Treasure" has saved the Persian language. "Kanoon" pays tribute to him through holding a gathering in which Shahnameh is recited and he is introduced more and more.

 7. Music Group (Chorus)

Students fond of singing, may join "kanoon's" music group which has been founded many years ago. It plays popular songs!

8."Visit" and ''revisit" during Nowruz

Among the beautiful rituals of Nowruz, is "Visit" and "Revisit"; In order to see each other in the New Year and wish everybody a prosperous New Year. "Kanoon" sets a special day in which members gather, talk, watch film and enjoy.

9. Library

"Kanoon" has a library where anybody, needing a book, may borrow it.

All members work honorary (often contribute themselves) for providing the above listed services. Since "Kanoon" is an independent organization, it depends on donations on order to meet major part of the costs needed for these programs. So "Kanoon" needs benevolences' help to perform these services the best way possible.
